I have recently visited the ancient harbours of Andriake and Patara, both in Turkey. These were centres of Lycean civilisation, trade routes of the Roman empire and places visited by the apostle Paul as part of his journeys between 48-60AD. The harbours are silted over, but to be able to see them and walk across the market place creates a comforting sense of connection with the earliest Christian believers.
